A place to find help
Our Family Resource Center provides our community members with a one stop shop for hands-on information about topics such as parenting, health care, mental health, financial, educational, employment, and much more.
Over 100 local non-profits/organizations serving Highlands County showcase their information in the Family Resource Center to make it easy for individuals of any age to access information. Our volunteers are eager to help you find the resources that you need.
We offer weekly prevention classes, free of charge, to anyone interested in strengthening themselves and their families. Please sign-up for these classes at the Family Resource Center ahead of time
Expressive Art Class
For Children ages 3 to 12 and their Parents
An exploration of creating a voice through creativity. Express thoughts and feelings with colors and shapes; tell your personal story, share your imagination, and create healing and wholeness. Parents take an active part in supporting their children’s exploration during this class.
1st Thursday of each month from 4-5pm
For Families and Parents
Strengthening family relationships through communication skills building and the importance of creating a deeper understanding of the strengths and needs of family relationships and of each family member.
1st Thursday of the month from 6-7 PM
Parent Support Group
Open Forum with special guest speakers depending on the needs of the group. Make connections and gain support in your achievements and struggles as a parent. Share experiences and solutions with each other, remember, “It takes a village to raise a child.”
2nd Thursday of the month from 9-10 AM
Keep your family safe and ready for any of the obstacles throughout childhood and teen years. Preventative measures and topics to be covered include: safe sleep for infants, car seat safety, water safety, fire safety, internet safety, safe social networking, home safety, and more.
2nd Thursday of the month from 11-12 PM
Life Skills Group
For Teenagers/Young Adults and their Parents
Growing up to become independent and successful can be an obstacle. Learn the needed social skills, organization, problem solving, when and how to ask for help, goal setting, time-management, decision making skills, attending college, how to get employment, and more, to help you on your way to success!
2nd Thursday of the month from 4-5pm
Financial Work Shop with Wells Fargo
Learn about budgeting, financial stability, how to build great credit, and other financial well-being topics. Learn how to achieve your future financial goals and be financially stable. Become financially strong!
3rd Thursday of the month from 5:30-7 PM
Leadership and Community Outreach
Learn how you and your family can become an important part of creating positive change for other families and children needing assistance in our community. Be part of providing help and support to your community through meaningful projects and services while developing strong leadership skills in your children/teens.
