Vision Quest

More About The Vision Quest Program

The Champion for Children Foundation, in partnership with the Early Learning Coalition and United Way, is grateful to provide preventative vision screening to our Highlands County Kindergarten, 1st and 3rd grade students each year. At no cost to the child or family,  the Vision Quest Program utilizes NASA developed technologies to determine if vision problems exist and catch vision problems early.

Studies have shown that normal vision is imperative to brain development. Vision screenings are vital to the health and education of our children, and prevent more serious problems from developing later in the child’s life. Typically, about 10% of the students screened in our Highlands County’s schools are referred for additional medical follow up. In other words, 1 out of 10 children screened through the Vision Quest Program demonstrated some condition that would have gone undetected had this service not been provided.
